Unarmed security guards in North Carolina are required to complete 16 hours of training with a North Carolina Private Protective Services Board-certified trainer. This training will cover topics such as patrol procedures, emergency response, legal issues, the role of the security guard in NC, communications, report writing and note taking.

Four hours of the training will be devoted to legal issues and the role of the security guard in North Carolina. This training must take place within 20 days of the employee being placed on post. The remaining 12 hours of required training must take place within 30 days of the employee being hired in a permanent capacity.
